Get around in Ischia

Let’s start right from the nearby town of Ischia, a few meters from the port begins the walk between bars, restaurants and shops of international brands, the shopping streets of Ischia are par excellence, which from Via Roma and then Corso Vittorio Colonna, leads us to the Aragonese Castle of Ischia Ponte,

Suggestive to walk the pier of the Aragonese Castle from which you can admire the Antico Borgo di Pescatori.

The Aragonese Castle, symbol of the island of Ischia in the world, can be visited from 9 until sunset, unique in its kind and a fantastic manor to discover.

On the right of Borgo dei Pescatori it is possible to reach the Tower of Michelangelo and the Bay of Cartaromana, another point of interest with a view of the Castle.

Heading towards the southern side of the island, we pass through Corso di Casamicciola, to arrive at Lacco Ameno, a very characteristic village whose symbol has the shape of a "mushroom", a green tuff rock which over the centuries has been smoothed "natural artists", the sea and the wind, which made it as we see it today.

In the center of Lacco Ameno it is possible to visit the excavations of the Sanctuary of Santa Restituta, from a short distance away the Museum of Villa Arbusto where it is possible to observe the precious finds of the Ischia archaeological excavations, including the famous Cup of Nestor.

Immediately after a stop for a visit to the botanical park, the La Mortella Gardens, to then reach the Zaro viewpoint, from which you can admire the entire coast of Forio and the Church of Soccorso, with its unique architectural style, its white walls contrast the blue of the sea and the shades of breathtaking sunsets.

Once in Forio, a walk in its "alleyways" to reach the Torrione, a bulwark defending Saracen raids, is a must, so you arrive at Piazzale Giovanni Paolo II to admire the Sunset from the Soccorso Church, and if lucky, even the famous Green Flash.

A place to consider is definitely Punta Imperatore, a promontory that dominates the fantastic Citara Bay. At its end is the lighthouse, which can be reached by walking along a dirt road. Not far from the Bay of Sorgeto in the hamlet of Panza, where the hot thermal water gushes from the rock and slips into the sea basins where you can bathe throughout the year.

The Borgo di Sant’Angelo, pearl of the island of Ischia, is one of the most sought after places by tourists. It can be reached with a short walk along the pedestrian area. There are so many perspectives here and, above all, it will be pleasant to wait for the evening lights for an aperitif or dinner in the Piazzetta.

Let’s move to the upper parts of the island. Serrara Fontana is the highest municipality and therefore offers a perfect overview of the southern side of Ischia. From its belvedere you can admire the village of Sant’Angelo and all the alternation of hills and terraces that slope down towards the sea. Recommended time for your perfect photo is sunset.
Finally, trekking and hiking enthusiasts cannot help but climb to the top of Mount Epomeo. Going up to the top you come across a whirlwind of breathtaking views, until you reach the highest point (788 meters above sea level) from where you can enjoy a truly unique perspective of the island. This is most likely one of the most authentic experiences for getting to know Ischia, for perceiving its soul, its volcanic, sulphurous, vibrant character.

From Serrara Fontana we move to Barano, another town on the island. Here the advice is to organize an excursion with the local guides to Monte Cotto. There is one path in particular, that of the "three bays", which will allow you to turn your gaze and lens to the Maronti Bay, the Scarrupata and the Cavagrado beach. Alternatively, it is possible to stop between the bends that lead to the Baia dei Maronti.
